DRAWMD
Pioneering Medical Apps, From Idea to Execution
Urologic oncologists Alex Kuitkov and Todd Morgan were familiar with technology. As students at Harvard Medical School they launched and operated UrologyMatch.com, a popular forum for aspiring and active urologists. They understood the potential of mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad to revolutionize patient care and had a vision for a mobile application that could improve doctor-patient communication and collaboration. While more technical than many physicians, Alex and Todd knew to focus on their strengths – and therefore had no interest in building and maintaining their own software development team to bring their idea to life.
Enter Software Development as a Service
Searching for a partner who could work within them from initial application development through maintenance, growth, and future feature development, the drawMD team was surprised how many options did not fit the bill. The big full service agencies simply couldn’t work within their budgets, while offshore dev shop resources couldn’t take them from strategy through execution and ongoing maintenance. In meeting with the team from SevenPico, they found their “happy medium” – the depth, diversity and responsiveness of a large development firm in a disciplined, comprehensive platform designed to start and scale with their business.
"We couldn’t have asked for better partners in turning our app concept into a viable, successful product. I’d recommend the SevenPico team to anyone with a good idea that deserves to see the light of day."
From Vision to Victory
The SevenPico team worked closely with drawMD to design, develop, operate, and even distribute and promote drawMD, galvanizing distribution and advertising partnerships with large medical device and pharmaceutical companies including Boston Scientific, Hologic, and Boehringer Ingelheim. Along the way, the app went from a mere concept to significant traction – more than 500,000 downloads across 19 medical specialties worldwide! As one of the first medical apps in the Apple App Store, drawMD became a perennial resident in the top App Store rankings and was translated into 5 different languages.
BACKGROUND
drawMD was created to help doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers better explain complex medical conditions and procedures. Using a tablet, caregivers can sit shoulder-to-shoulder with their patients and use simple medical drawings and overlays on drawMD to help them understand. drawMD was one of the very first medical apps in the Apple App store, and was available across 18 medical specialties and used by thousands of providers worldwide.
